Hilley
Hilley , a small village situated at West Sikkim is the gateway of famous trekking route of Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary. The place is known well for its natural surroundings and clean and calm nature. From NJP/Siliguri, one can directly reach Hilley, the entry point for Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary. A nights halt enables trekkers/tourists to start early for the Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary. Differnet flowers and orchids can be seen at Hilley alongwith wide variety of Himalayan birds including the white browed Fullvetta. Hilley is approximately 120 km from the capital Gangtok. The nearest town is Okhrey which is 10 kms from Hilley and Sombaria which is around 30 KM. The temperature of Okhrey can reach up to −4 °C in winter and often Hilley experiences snowfall during winter. A popular nearby tourist attraction of Okhrey which is only 10 kms from the place.Hilley can be visited throughout the year, the best season is April-May for Rhododren bloom.
How to reach
Hilley can be reached from Siliguri with a 7-8 hrs drive covering 140 kms via Teesta, Jorethang, Okhrey. Distance from Gangtok is 170 kms. One can avail shared Jeep service from Jorethang Jeep Stand (Opp. Payel Cinema, Siliguri), so, take a auto to Payel Cinema, from there, you can avail shared jeep to Jorethang, which is available at regular interval till noon. From Jorethang, one can get shared Jeep upto Hilley till afternoon.
By Air: The nearest airport is the Bagdogra Airport, which is situated just outside the town of Siliguri. The place is well connected and it receives international flights as well.
By Train : The New Jalpaiguri Station (NJP) is the most know Railway Station nearby. It takes around 6 to 7 hours from NJP to reach Hilley. The station is well connected to places such as Kolkata, New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Dibrugarh. Taxis are available at the station as well.

The home stay is run by a Sherpa family whose hospitality is well known by the trekkers.
