Enchey Monastery
- built in1840 by the Nyingma-pa (Yellow Cap) community,
the monastery is situated at 3 KMs North East of the
city. In the month of December Chaam Festival (Lama
Dance) is conducted.
Deer Park - Buid as replica of Sarnath the park
is consisted of statue of Buddha in Sarnath Mudra
Research Institute of Tibetology - In 10th February
1957, Dalai Lama laid the foundation stone of this Institute
& in 1st October 1958, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru,
inaugurated this institute. It is the World's 3rd largest
collection of ancient Tibetian books. A collection of
over 400 orchids is also there at the ground floor of
the Insttitute
Rumtech Monastery - It is situated at 24 KMs
west of Gangtok. After Tibet was taken over by the Chinese,
the 16th Guru of Gyalwa Karmapa group took shelter at
Sikkim and built Rumtech Monastery based on Chofuk Monastery
of Tibet. Several tales of Tibetian Buddhist Religion
is preserved as mural at this monastery. The nature
built Botanical Zoo adds beauty to this monastery,
Fodang Monastery - Situated at 40 KMs north of
Gangtok. A half an hour trek can take you to the Labrang
Gumpha. The fabulous view of Kanchenjungha is available
from Magan & Singhik.
Tssango Lake - 35 KMs from Gangtok, 3774 meter
high Tssango Lake is covered with snow during the month
of February to April. It will be better to cover Nathula
Pass (17 KMs from Tssango) & Harbhajan Baba's Temple
along with Tssango Lake. This route was once known as
the Silk route between Tibet and India. Cameras are
not allowed in Nathula & Permission is required
to visit Nathula, which can be obtained from Gangtok.
This Restricted Area Permit can be obtained from the
Superintendent of Police, Gangtok, Foreigner's will
have to collect their permit from Department of Tourism,
Government of Sikkim, M G Marg, Gangtok.
Butterfly Garden - Built in 1992, this park is
India's only Butterfly Park with over 400 species of
Butterfly.
Fambong Lho Wild Life Sanctuary - 20 KMs from
Gangtok, the area of this sanctuary is 5280 Hectare.
Bus or Jeep will take you to Pangthang (14 KM). Pangthang
to Sanctuary -this is trek route of 6 KM. From the 7000
ft high Wooden Tower - Red Panda, Himalayan Black Beer
and many other animals can be seen. Lodging arrangement
