 Murti, a small village with Murti River floating beside and with the magnanimous Gorumara Forest
standing opposite is the ideal gateway to start and complete your Dooars tour. With a wonderful surroundings and over a hundred species of charming birds including the Great Hornbills, Murti offers a rememberable stay at the foothill of the Himalayas.
With a close proximity to the main entry point of Gorumara National Park - a mere 20 minutes drive, arranged Jeep Safari's to Chapramari Forest under Gorumara N P and Jatraprasad Tower on the way to Lataguri, its an ideal location to enjoy your stay at Dooars. The possibility of catching a glimpse of wild animals like bison, deer, peacock and even leopard is great from the Jatraprasad watchtower. Lataguri is just 20 minutes drive from Murti. While Lataguri getting more and more conjusted and crowded, Murti on the other hand offers a calm and peaceful stay in the forest surroundings.
There are several other watchtowers — Rhino Point, Medla, Chukchuki, Khunia and Chapramari (in the adjoining Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary).
The best way to reach Murti as well as Lataguri is getting off at New Mal Jn. ex Kanchankanya Express, which is another 1.5 hours journey from New Jalpaiguri Jn. One can get direct vehicles from NJP and New Mainaguri too, but Murti is just 30 minutes drive from New Mal.
The West Bengal Forest Development Corporation offers a Forest Rest House at Murti namely Banani with different type of accommodation. The food supplied at the FRH is quite reasonable but though the Nature Resort is quite good, but due to uncontrolled tourism and picnic arrangements in its surroundings, the river bank in front of the FRH has become unthinkably untidy. A few private Resorts are also coming up in Murti like Prime Murti and few more which offers much standard accommodation than the Government run one and the rates are not that different. Soem of the resorts are being build at around 10 minutes drive from the FRH like , Kaku'r Bari. This area offers much better view with picturesque surroundings of Gorumara N P and Murti Riverbed. If you are lucky enough then you might get a glimpse of Elephant herds drinking water from Murti River.
The future of Murti as a tourist destination seems very bright but everyone must act catiously with controlled tourism growth otherwise we might end up destroying another budding beauty.
